Seasonal Tips for Keeping Aussie Carpets Clean

Your carpet is with you every day of the year. It is important to keep it looking its best for the comfort and health of the people living in, and visiting, your house. Here are some suggestions to keep your carpet looking its best throughout the 4 seasons in Australia.

Summer

Let your carpet and rugs receive some of that summer sun!

– On especially warm days, open doors and windows to allow light and fresh air into the house.
– Where practical, shake rugs and small mats outside to clear dust and other loose particles; leave them to hang on railings or a clothesline for a couple of hours.
– Keep a mat near front and rear entrances to ensure sandals and thongs can be wiped clean.

Autumn

The weather is cooling down, but you can still take some time out to let air and light in on your carpets on rain-free days.

– Take time to shake or brush down rugs outside.
– Vacuum once per week. Sprinkle areas with baking soda before commencing to deodorize carpet.
– Easter treats are delicious but can leave untidy traces. Be vigilant in cleaning up Easter egg chocolate shards and wrapping.

Winter

The most difficult month to keep carpets clean!

– Keep a rack or space by doors where shoes can get left on entry. This reduces the possibility of water and mud being trekked into the carpet.
– Keep an umbrella stand by the front door so water droplets don’t spread
– If you use a wood heater or open fire, make sure the area round the heater is brushed clear of wood and ash before and after use.
– Vacuum once per week, and be wary of shedding coats on beloved pets and on humans!

Spring

The customary Spring clean should extend to each part of your house, and in not least of all the carpets.

– Once again, take advantage of sunny days and air rugs and mats outside.
– After dusting shelves, furniture or ornaments, be sure to vacuum to prevent dust gathering in the carpets.
– Stains from spilled cleaning gear can be dealt with, using a sprinkling of bicarbonate of soda, a cup of warm water and a clean cloth.
